Knowledge Transfer at the McCaughey Centre
The McCaughey Centre acknowledges and supports the University of Melbourne’s Knowledge Transfer and the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Knowledge Transfer Plan. The generation and maintenance of partnerships between communities, researchers, and policy-makers is central to our work. These partnerships provide an important vehicle for the translation and exchange of knowledge within and between stakeholder groups.
What is Knowledge Transfer?
Knowledge transfer describes the sharing and exchange of knowledge and experience that takes place through teaching and research. The concept acknowledges that the flow of information in teaching and research is a two way process, where researchers, communities and partners all learn from one another.
Knowledge transfer activities include all media appearances, teaching and workforce development, publications and events. The idea is also central to collaborative research. McCaughey Centre projects focus on community interests, and knowledge transfer principles are practised by all Centre researchers.
Knowledge Transfer in Action
The principles of knowledge transfer underpin all of the McCaughey Centre’s work, and our projects have resonance with communities, partner organisations and other researchers and research institutions. All McCaughey Centre staff actively participate in knowledge translation and exchange activities.
Some of the McCaughey Centre’s current research focuses specifically on improving understanding of knowledge translation and exchange. Several of our major projects, such as Community Indicators Victoria and the Cochrane Public Health Review Group, have a particularly strong focus on this area.
